About us

MetalPDB is developed within the framework of the MetalWeb project, which aims at creating a comprehensive resource for the study of metals in biology.

The project was initiated thanks to funding by the Ministero Italiano dell'Universita' e della Ricerca (MIUR) under contract RBFR08WGXT (FIRB "Futuro in Ricerca"). Subsequently, various sources have contributed to Its continuous maintenance and development, including: Fondazione CR Firenze (grant 24316), European Commission (grants 261572, 675858, 777536, 101017567), C.I.R.M.M.P. (intramural funding)

Claudia Andreini is the coordinator of the project. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences in 2006, and has expertise in the development of databases and bioinformatics tools to study metals in biological systems.

Valeria Putignano is a Ph.D. student graduated in Bioinformatics. Her research is focused on the development of MetalPDB and computational tools to study metalloproteins.

Enrico Morelli is the system administrator of CERM. He has a long-term experience in developing databases and web-based interfaces.

Antonio Rosato is Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Florence since 2002. He actively works on the implementation of bioinformatics methods on metalloproteins.
